Government Emphasizes Dont Drink and Drive as 3-Day Accident Toll Reaches 581 with 95 Deaths

Deputy Government Spokesperson revealed that on the third day of the 7-dangerous-days period during Songkran 2026, there have been a total of 581 accidents and 95 deaths. He emphasized ongoing strict care for tourists, urging 'Don't Drink and Drive' and cautious driving.


On 14 April 2026, Ms. Lalida Pertwiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, stated that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, together with the Tourist Police Command and related agencies, has been closely monitoring safety during the “7 dangerous days” of the Songkran Festival 2026 to build confidence among both Thai and foreign tourists.


According to overall national accident data (referencing the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation), on 12 April 2026 there were 193 accidents, resulting in 169 injuries and 24 deaths. The 3-day total (10–12 April 2026) recorded 581 accidents, 486 injuries, and 95 deaths.


Regarding foreign tourists, data from the Tourist Assistance Centers (TAC) across 79 locations nationwide showed that on 12 April 2026, two foreign tourists were involved in accidents (both injured, no fatalities). These occurred in Phuket and Chonburi provinces and involved motorcycle accidents in both cases.

For the 3-day period (10–12 April 2026), a total of seven foreign tourists were involved in accidents (all injured, with no deaths).


Regarding services and assistance to tourists, on 12 April 2026, a total of 2,218 services were provided, including:


Tourist and route information provided to 2,113 individuals.


Coordination of assistance through hotlines for 3 cases.


Reports of lost items handled for 6 cases.


Coordination of other assistance in 96 cases.



The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has continually upgraded safety measures for tourists in all key areas, integrating efforts with all agencies to ensure the Songkran Festival proceeds smoothly.


“The government requests cooperation from all citizens and tourists to drive cautiously and adhere to the principle of ‘Don't Drink and Drive’ so that this year’s Songkran Festival will be a time of happiness and safety for everyone,” Ms. Lalida said.
