“Wannor” Welcomes Prime Minister in Sri Yala, Praises Him as Suitable to Resolve National Crisis

“Wannor” praises the Prime Minister as the right person to resolve the national crisis, confident his achievements will be evident over 8 years, believes the policies are practical, and presents an ancient kris as a keepsake.  "kris" refers to a traditional ceremonial dagger.

On 17 April 2026, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, also Minister of Interior, along with Cabinet members and military commanders, traveled to "Sri Yala House" in Yala Province to meet Wannor Mutah, the Prime Minister's advisory chairman. They discussed security and official matters in the southern border region amid a warm welcome featuring renowned southern local cuisine.

Wannor Mutah expressed his impression, stating that only two prime ministers had visited this home in decades: General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh and Thaksin Shinawatra. He said Anutin is the third, and possibly the last, prime minister he will invite to dine with him at age 82, and thanked the Prime Minister for honoring him with a personal visit.

The Prime Minister's advisory chairman praised Anutin's extensive political experience spanning more than 25 years, during which he faced major national crises including the Asian financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed confidence that Anutin’s serious work ethic would enable him to solve the complex problems the country currently faces, especially given the government's focus on clear, practical policies rather than elaborate academic rhetoric.

"I am confident that if the government continues its policies for 4 years or even up to 8 years, the country's situation will definitely improve," said Wannor Mutah. He also affirmed his intention as advisor to use his knowledge and abilities to serve the nation in his later years without seeking political gain.

At the end of the meeting, Wannor presented the Prime Minister with a "kris," an ancient weapon and a sacred object in local beliefs. Prime Minister Anutin returned money to symbolically "reverse the omen" following the tradition that sharp objects must be exchanged through purchase to bring good fortune. They then took a group photo with military commanders and ministers in a friendly atmosphere.
