Mongkol, as Deputy Speaker of Parliament, showcased his vision at the IPU forum in Turkey. The global parliamentary body invited the King Prajadhipok's Institute as a special guest, arranged VIP seating, and designated the institute as host for the PTI-IPU meeting this October.
On 18 April 2026 in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey, reporters reported that Mr. Mongkol Surasajja, President of the Senate and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, was assigned by the Speaker of Parliament to lead the Thai delegation to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting. Mongkol organized the delegation to be as small as necessary, in line with the government's policy to reduce expenses. The event atmosphere was cordial. The Thai delegation leader met and conversed with the IPU President, IPU Secretary-General, and the Speaker of Bhutan's Parliament, among others, to strengthen international relations through proactive parliamentary diplomacy, consistent with the Thai Parliament's approach.
At the same time, this meeting marked the first time the IPU invited Thailand's King Prajadhipok's Institute to attend as a special guest, assigning it the foremost seating position, followed by the seating for representatives of each country in alphabetical order, as a high honor to Thailand.
Furthermore, during the meeting, an agreement was reached that the Parliamentary Training Institute (PTI IPU) invited Thailand, represented by the King Prajadhipok's Institute, to host the first PTI-IPU Secretariat meeting, which will be held in Thailand in October 2026. The Secretary-General of the King Prajadhipok's Institute, as an IPU partner, accepted the hosting role and has confirmed participation requests from several countries.
Additionally, Mongkol delivered a statement in the main assembly hall on several topics under the theme "Promoting Hope, Building Lasting Peace, and Ensuring Justice for Future Generations," focusing on parliaments fostering inclusive justice amid current global challenges and technological progress, especially the rapid development of AI. This includes legal reforms and social welfare systems to reduce inequality while increasing educational and skill opportunities for future youth generations.
Moreover, the Thai Parliament participated in endorsing two key resolutions: the role of parliaments in creating mechanisms for post-war conflict management and sustainable peacebuilding, as well as promoting a fair and sustainable global economy through combating trade barriers and tax evasion.
