Spotlight on Next-Generation Leaders of the People’s Party: Appointing Weerayut as New Party Head, Teng Steps Down as Secretary

A spotlight on the next generation of orange leaders shows 'Ajarn Ton' appointed as the new head of the People’s Party, with 'Teng' stepping back to become secretary. 'Lisa' will serve as spokesperson alongside key southern figures, 'Ti Patthapong' leads the northern faction, 'Bank' is set to become the leader for Bangkok, and 'Ice Cream' will be the opposition whip chairman.

On 18 Apr 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported from the People’s Party (PPP). Regarding the latest developments on administrative appointments ahead of the PPP’s annual general meeting scheduled for 24–26 April, which coincides with the Supreme Court’s hearing on the case of 44 former Move Forward Party MPs who proposed amendments to the Criminal Code Section 112 on 24 April: The legal team has outlined three possible outcomes — 1. The court dismisses the case; 2. The court accepts the case, possibly ordering MPs to suspend duties unless otherwise directed; or 3. The court instructs the National Anti-Corruption Commission to amend the petition. The PPP will closely monitor the Supreme Court proceedings during its meeting.

Meanwhile, notable personnel changes and key position shifts within the People’s Party include the following. Mr. Weerayut Kanchuchat, currently deputy party leader, will be promoted to lead the People’s Party, replacing Mr. Nattapong Rueangpanyawut, the current party head, who will step down to become party secretary. This replaces Mr. Sarayut Jailak, the current party secretary, who has resigned.

Additionally, Ms. Phakamon Noon-anun, a party-list MP, will become the party’s spokesperson, succeeding Mr. Parit Watcharasinthu, also a party-list MP, who will move to serve as chairman of the opposition party coordination committee (opposition whip chairman). Regional leadership positions include Mr. Patthapong Leelaphat, Chiang Mai MP and deputy party spokesperson, leading upper northern region; Mr. Supakorn Kittayakhun, former Phitsanulok MP for district 5, for the lower northern region; Mr. Weeranut Huadsri, Khon Kaen MP, for the northeast; Ms. Phakamon Noon-anun for the south; and Mr. Supanat Meenachainan, Bangkok MP, for Bangkok.

However, all the positions mentioned above remain subject to change, depending on the decisions made at the People’s Party annual general meeting as well as the Supreme Court ruling on the 44 MPs case scheduled for 24 April.
