Samsip urges the government to accelerate the crackdown on illegal goods and revive Sungai Kolok as a border economic city, confident that with collective care, it can stand proudly again.
On 19 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Samsip Mayuso, Member of Parliament for Narathiwat from the Kla Party, stated that various parties have noted that Sungai Kolok district is currently facing problems with illegal goods including contraband, drugs, and other unlawful items. These issues directly affect the area's image, confidence, and dignity inevitably. Sungai Kolok was once a prosperous border economic city, a center of trade and investment, and a crucial gateway of the south full of opportunities. People from many places traveled there to trade, generate income, and drive a vibrant economy.
Mr. Samsip added that if the problems of illegal goods and drugs continue to grow, the city’s image will be further damaged. The confidence of residents, investors, and visitors will decline, impacting the economy, border trade, tourism, and the future of our children in the long term. As a Sungai Kolok native, he expressed deep concern and urged relevant government agencies, especially local administrative authorities and all responsible sectors, to urgently inspect, enforce, and take serious action. These problems must not become normalized in our community.
“Currently, our people are already facing severe economic difficulties. If these problems persist, they will worsen hardships and reduce chances to restore strength to the area. I call on all government department heads to integrate efforts seriously and solve the problems with tangible results to restore Sungai Kolok as a safe, livable, investable, and trustworthy city once more. This is our home, and we all must take care of it. I believe that if we are sufficiently determined, Sungai Kolok will stand proudly again,” Mr. Samsip said.
