Religious Leaders and Narathiwat Imam and Tadika Associations Join Hayat Prayer to Demand Justice for Kamonsak

Kamonsak teared up after more than 2,000 villagers expressed their faith by joining the Hayat prayer to demand justice one month after the assassination attempt.

On 19 Apr 2026 GMT+7, at the courtyard in front of the Tadika Champako building in Bacho district, Narathiwat province, local villagers gathered for a Hayat prayer ceremony marking one month since the assassination attempt on Kamonsak Liwamoa, Member of Parliament for Narathiwat's 5th district from the Prachachart Party. The event declared support for the representative in demanding that the truth be revealed. The atmosphere included religious leaders, the Imam Association, Tadika Association, village headmen networks, youth organizations, Muslimah groups, teacher associations, and private schools from Bacho district, all jointly praying for divine protection over the MP, the removal of dangers, and most importantly, that the truth be uncovered. Concerns about the case's transparency arose after evidence showed the perpetrators were military officials using government vehicles (Internal Security Operations Command - ISOC), which caused public fear that justice might be compromised.

Kamonsak Liwamoa addressed the crowd of supporters, stating that despite how severe the incident was, he would not back down or allow the matter to fade away without resolution. "I acknowledge the concerns and losses that have occurred, and I affirm that I will not retreat. I will fully perform my duties to resolve the issue and seek the truth to be revealed to the public. I ask everyone to be patient and continue cooperating. We will make every effort to demand justice and protect our fellow citizens," he said.

Dr. Muhammad Lateh Lateh read a statement on behalf of the public sector, clearly stating that the shooting incident on 19 March was not merely an attack on an individual but an attempt to undermine confidence in the justice system. He called on relevant agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, not only into the perpetrators but also expanding to all involved parties, without double standards, ending discrimination in the justice process, and enforcing laws with dignity and equality. He urged a swift resolution of the case to restore public trust. The event also attracted international attention from neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, Syahiran Bin Muhammad, Head of Public Relations for the People's Justice Party (PKR) branch in Kota Bharu, Malaysia, attended the event to show support. He viewed the southern border issue as not belonging to any single group but as directly impacting peace and economic cooperation between the two countries. As a representative of Malaysia's ruling party, he expressed the hope that both nations would be recognized as lands of peace. The violence affects them directly or indirectly. His presence aimed to propose solutions and offer assistance within their capacity to ensure justice and lead to lasting peace.
