Prime Minister Clams Up, Avoids Answering Media on PM2.5 Issue, Says He Must Go to Chiang Mai First

The Prime Minister gestured to zip his lips, avoiding media questions about PM2.5, saying he must go to Chiang Mai first. This afternoon, he is scheduled to fly to Chiang Mai to monitor the situation and deliver policies and directives to solve forest fire and PM2.5 dust problems.

On 20 April 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, attended as the chairman to open the seminar on policy delivery and guidelines for preparing the fiscal year 2027 budget at Muang Thong Thani.

Upon arrival, seeing the media waiting to interview him, the Prime Minister gestured to zip his lips. When the media tried to question him about the PM2.5 dust issue, the Prime Minister only replied, “I’ll go to Chiang Mai first.”

The Prime Minister's schedule includes traveling to the field to monitor efforts to resolve forest fires, haze, and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the upper northern provinces cluster.

At 13:30, the Prime Minister will chair a meeting to monitor the situation and deliver policies and directives to address forest fire and PM2.5 dust problems at the Yodthap Auditorium, 7th Infantry Division Headquarters, Don Kaew Subdistrict, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province.

At 15:30, the Prime Minister will visit the field to follow fire suppression efforts at Wat Phra That Doi Saket. He will inspect operations based on the “Wet Fire Break” concept, which creates firebreaks using moisture, and will oversee the use of large unmanned aerial vehicles (LAI) to survey and assist in extinguishing real forest fires.
