Six parties have yet to finalize the distribution of committee chairmanships, with a final decision expected on 22 April. It was revealed that the Prachachon Party and the Democrat Party both insist on securing the chairmanship of the Legal Affairs Committee.
At 13:30 on 20 April 2026 at the Parliament, reporters reported that Mr. Sophon Sarum, Speaker of the House of Representatives, chaired a meeting of political party leaders to consider the proportional allocation of 35 standing committees of the House. Party leaders and representatives attended, including Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, party-list MP of the Democrat Party; Mr. Pakornwut Udompipatnaskul; Mr. Parit Wacharasindhu, party-list MP of the Prachachon Party; Mrs. Monporn Charoensri, Nakhon Phanom MP of the Pheu Thai Party; Mr. Wasaworn Phuangpornsi, party-list MP and leader of the Sai Ruam Phalang Party.
After the meeting, Mr. Sophon said that the assembly allocated committee chairmanship quotas according to each party's number of MPs. The conclusion was that six political parties were allocated chairmanship quotas: Bhumjaithai Party with 14 committees; Prachachon Party with 9; Pheu Thai Party with 5; Kla Party with 4; Democrat Party with 2; and Sai Ruam Phalang Party with 1. However, which party will chair which committee has not yet been finalized.
Mrs. Monporn Charoensri, Nakhon Phanom MP of the Pheu Thai Party, said there is still no conclusion on which committees each party will chair. If multiple parties want the same committee, initial discussions will be held among them. For instance, several parties want the Legal Affairs, Justice, and Human Rights Committee, with both the Democrat and Prachachon parties interested. They will discuss this privately first, then reconvene on 22 April at 13:00, when they expect to reach a conclusion.
