Yossanan Emphasizes Ministry of Higher Educations Support in Tackling PM2.5 and Assisting Frontline Workers Lacking Equipment

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education Yossanan emphasized that the Ministry supports solving the PM2.5 problem and coordinates assistance for frontline workers if equipment is lacking.

At 7:30 a.m. on 21 April 2026 GMT+7 at the Government House, Yossanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, spoke about addressing PM2.5 pollution. He said there was no need to wait for a Cabinet meeting because communication is ongoing. The Prime Minister has spoken with each minister to perform their duties to the best of their abilities. As Deputy Prime Minister overseeing the northern region, he has networks in place to be informed of any shortages. The Ministry of Higher Education is acting within its budget to provide support and knowledge guidance so communities can manage on their own. The National Astronomical Research Institute has shared guidelines for making related equipment. On 20 April, the Prime Minister and several relevant ministers visited Chiang Mai to observe the situation.

Yossanan added that the dust problem is not limited to Chiang Mai but also affects Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phrae, Phayao, and central Thailand. He affirmed that the Ministry will assist all affected citizens. His field visits aim to assess needs and offer encouragement. A war room continuously monitors the situation supported by networks managing the issue. He stressed the importance of supporting volunteers and their mental well-being. Regarding cooperation with neighboring countries, he said the Ministry analyzes dust origins, noting some border areas do contribute transboundary dust, while other areas can be managed domestically. Actions have already begun by responsible agencies.
