“Pradorn” Reveals Co-Payment Plus and Old-for-New Car Exchange Not Yet on Cabinet Agenda This Week

“Pradorn” revealed that the Co-Payment Plus scheme will not be presented to the Cabinet this week because the Economic Cabinet has not yet met, as the relevant ministers are occupied with overseas duties. He confirmed that the budget is definitely available and expressed confidence that the government can manage it effectively.

At 09:30 on 21 April 2026, at the Government House, Pradorn Prissanantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office and overseer of the Budget Bureau, spoke about the government’s “Old-for-New Car Exchange” program aimed at supporting the transition to clean energy. He said it is unlikely to be submitted to the Cabinet meeting today, as the Ministry of Finance is still reviewing the details.

Regarding electricity cost support for vulnerable groups, Pradorn said this will actually be implemented in stages. Those who consume low electricity typically pay about 2 baht per unit. Relevant agencies might revise the electricity tariff brackets, with changes expected to start in June, as the existing measures will expire in May.

Additionally, Pradorn clarified that the Co-Payment Plus project has not been included in today’s Cabinet meeting because the Economic Cabinet has yet to convene. This is due to Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aekniti Nitithanprapas having just returned from overseas, causing the Economic Cabinet meeting to be postponed. He emphasized that this delay is unrelated to budget availability, affirming that the government can manage the funds through various means, including enacting budget transfer laws, which will definitely proceed, as well as using parts of the emergency reserve budget.
