Sihasak reveals that domestic oil supply is starting to stabilize and confirms that Oman is willing to sell excess oil produced to Thailand but price negotiations are necessary.
At 12:10 p.m. on 21 April 2026 at the Government House, Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke after the Cabinet meeting regarding negotiations with Oman to facilitate Thai cargo shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. He said the situation is beginning to stabilize. From talks with Oman, they mentioned that if Thailand needs oil, they have surplus production and asked to be notified in advance. The situation is becoming stable. Whether to buy additional oil from Oman depends on our increased demand and price negotiations. Currently, he noted that Thailand already consumes a significant amount of oil in the region.
When asked if there will be an oil shortage expected between May and June requiring new sources, Mr. Sihasak said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively discussing with various countries, who are trying to help. The Ministry of Energy or PTT will need to conduct negotiations. He believes the current oil and energy situation should be stable.
