Chaiyachon predicts Bhumjaithai will not field candidates for Bangkok governor and council but awaits party consensus

Chaiyachon expects the Bhumjaithai Party will not field candidates for Bangkok governor or Bangkok Metropolitan Council but does not know if Anutin has considered anyone; awaiting a clear party resolution.

At 12:40 PM on 21 April 2026 GMT+7. Chaiyachon Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society and Secretary-General of the Bhumjaithai Party, spoke at the Government House regarding clarity on nominating candidates for the Bangkok governor and Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMC) elections. He said, "Currently, the Bhumjaithai Party has not had any discussions, and as far as I know, the party has no plans to field any candidates. Personally, I am unsure whether Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior as well as party leader, is considering anyone, but so far, there is no one."

When asked when a clear party decision would be made, Chaiyachon said they need to discuss internally first. From what he knows, it is unlikely there will be candidates. As for nominating Bangkok Metropolitan Council members, he is uncertain and will need to check further.
