Dr. Praphon, Chair of the Senate Public Health Committee, confirms the false news regarding senators proposing to cancel the 30-baht Gold Card and plans to take legal action against those deliberately spreading misinformation.
On 21 Apr 2026 GMT+7, at the Parliament, Dr. Praphon Tangsirikietikul, a senator and Chair of the Senate Public Health Committee, along with Dr. Weeraphan Suwannamai, Vice Chair of the committee, addressed misinformation about senators preparing to propose cancelling the 30-baht Gold Card medical benefit. Dr. Praphon stated that this rumor is untrue and distorts facts from debates during the government's policy statement in Parliament. During the debate, he and Dr. Weeraphan discussed the health insurance system structure but never proposed cancelling citizens' medical rights even once. He emphasized he has never reduced nor intended to reduce citizens' rights. Their consistent position is to ensure the system's budget aligns with real costs, otherwise public hospitals would collapse first, ultimately harming the public the most.
Dr. Praphon affirmed that no senator has considered cancelling the Gold Card. Thus, spreading false information not only distorts facts but also causes public alarm and misunderstandings about the country's healthcare system. Currently, senators and relevant parties are gathering data and evidence. If it is found that information was deliberately disseminated causing public harm, legal action will be considered.
"Senators have no intention to cancel the Gold Card. On the contrary, we are proposing reforms to make the health insurance system transparent, governable, and sustainable to ensure citizens continue receiving quality medical care in the future. The public should not be alarmed by distorted information. The fact is that senators are fulfilling their role to oversee and propose ways to strengthen the Gold Card system," he said. Dr. Praphon concluded.
