Anutin Concerned About Border Residents After Myanmar Bullets Land in Thailand Nods to Appointment of Southern Border Peace Talks Head

Anutin is concerned about residents along the Thailand-Myanmar border after stray bullets landed on Thai soil causing distress. He warns against allowing these incidents to impact Thailand and acknowledges the appointment of the head of the Southern Border Peace Talks delegation.

On 22 April 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, spoke about directives given in a meeting concerning the management of the Thailand-Myanmar border area, especially regarding the ongoing fighting in Myanmar. He stated that today's meeting of the Ministry of Interior produced several directives and admitted he is concerned about all aspects.

Regarding Thai citizens suffering from stray bullets crossing into Thailand, Anutin said all possible measures are being taken, including diplomatic efforts and ensuring public safety. He emphasized the need for dialogue and confirmed that the fighting is confined to Myanmar without intent to cross into Thailand. "We will not tolerate incursions; if they fight, it must be within their own territory. Don't let our country be affected," he said.

As for the National Security Council meeting discussing whether to establish a Southern Border Peace Talks delegation, since there currently isn't one in this government, Anutin said the process must follow proper procedures.

When asked if a head for the peace talks delegation has been chosen, Anutin nodded and briefly replied, "Yes." When reporters asked who it would be, he responded, "Let's finish the meeting first."

Regarding pressure to change the Director of the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Front (ISOC Region 4 Front) so that the 4th Army Commander is not automatically appointed by position, Anutin listened but did not respond to the question.

Anutin also commented on Moody’s credit rating agency upgrading Thailand’s credit outlook from "negative" to "stable" while maintaining the Baa1 rating, saying, "What's not good about that?"

When asked what the upgrade reflects, Anutin said it shows Thailand’s fundamentals remain strong. "Therefore, we must continue to strengthen this foundation. The improved rating will enhance foreign investment and international confidence in all dimensions, leading to positive outcomes."
