Deputy PM and Finance Minister Ekniti Confirms Public Debt Ceiling Remains at 70%, Budget Talks for 2027 Completed

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas confirmed that the public debt ceiling remains at 70%, unchanged and not expanded. He noted that the 2027 budget discussions have been completed, maintaining the existing principles.


At 13:40 on 22 April 2026 at the Government House, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas spoke after a meeting to consider the 2027 budget framework, saying there were four agency matters and budget issues that have been settled, and that they continue to adhere to the previous principles.

When asked whether there was discussion about raising the public debt ceiling from 70% to 75%, Ekniti replied that there had not been any such expansion yet. He reaffirmed that the ceiling remains at 70% before promptly leaving the Government House by car.
