“Abhisit” urges the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to explain its dismissal of the complaint against “Saksayam” for submitting a false asset declaration, noting the impact on credibility and the concentration of power in an independent agency, and expresses confidence that many parties will continue to petition for further investigation.
On 22 April 2026, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, spoke about the National Anti-Corruption Commission’s (NACC) decision to dismiss the complaint against Mr. Saksayam Chidchob, former Minister of Transport, who was accused of deliberately submitting a false asset and liability declaration related to holding shares in Buri Charoen Construction Limited Partnership. He said he understands the NACC will provide clarification regarding this decision because the Constitutional Court's rulings bind all organizations. According to reports, the NACC focused on Mr. Saksayam’s intent, although the NACC cannot disregard the Constitutional Court’s ruling. Yet, if the NACC focuses on his intent, why did he fail to submit an accurate asset declaration?
Believes many parties are ready to continue the investigation.
Mr. Abhisit further believes this issue extends beyond just the asset declaration, as other laws are involved. At yesterday’s (21 April) Democrat Party parliamentary meeting, they gathered facts to determine how to proceed, since this matter affects credibility and exacerbates allegations of power consolidation through various agencies. Regarding whether this affects the NACC itself, Mr. Abhisit stated that the NACC must explain why, if Mr. Saksayam lacked intent, the issue occurred, or whether other related offenses might be discussed in connection with this case.
As for whether this amounts to whitewashing Mr. Saksayam to allow him to return to the still-vacant ministerial position, Mr. Abhisit emphasized that the matter is not yet concluded and believes many others will continue to pursue this issue.
