Mark confirmed that the Democrat Party will definitely field candidates for the Bangkok Governor and Council elections. He did not respond when asked whether the announcement would be impressive but hinted that they are approaching someone who has previously worked with the party.
At 14:20 on 22 April 2026 GMT+7, Abhisit Vejjajiva, party-list MP and leader of the Democrat Party, revealed at the parliament the party's readiness to field candidates for the Bangkok Governor and Bangkok Council members (BMC). He said the Democrat Party is currently intensifying efforts to finalize BMC candidates and expects to have more candidates by 28 April.
Regarding the Bangkok Governor candidate, talks are ongoing with a person the party is courting. There is no conclusion yet, but once finalized, the party will announce it. The individual being approached has previously worked with the party or has some loose association with it.
When a reporter pressed on whether the candidate reveal would be impressive, Abhisit laughed but did not answer. He added that on Sunday, 26 April, the Democrat Party will hold its 2026 annual general meeting online since there are no special agenda items. There will be no proposal to appoint a new deputy party leader to replace Veerapong Prapha, the former deputy party leader responsible for missions, who resigned to join the government.
