On the first day, MPs paid for their own lunch. Warong and Juree live streamed to showcase a food zone set up exclusively for MPs. Plans are underway to introduce prepaid cards to make payments more convenient.
On 22 Apr 2026 GMT+7, reporters at the parliament reported that during today's House of Representatives session, it was the first day MPs had to pay for their own lunch instead of receiving catered meals from the parliament. This follows the policy of Mr. Sophon Sarum, the Speaker of the House, agreed upon with political parties in the House. A food area was set up on the 2nd floor, next to the parliament meeting room, with shops serving MPs. Payments can be made by exchanging cash for coupons to buy food or by scanning QR Codes at the stalls. In the future, prepaid food cards will be introduced to make payment more convenient for MPs.
As a result, several MPs live streamed tours of the food stalls they now pay for themselves on their personal pages and Facebook. For example, Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom, party-list MP and leader of the Thai Pakdee Party, who was the first to campaign for this change, and Mr. Juree Numkaew, Songkhla MP from the Democrat Party, also live streamed tours of the food stalls. The food offered includes noodle soup, shredded chicken rice noodles, chicken rice, Khao Soi, curry rice, Islamic chicken biryani, grilled meatballs, fresh coffee, drinks, and snacks. This food zone is reserved exclusively for MPs.
