He stressed his hope to see peace in Myanmar and noted that the decision to cancel MOU 44 is pending the National Security Council's consideration.
At 09:48 on 23 Apr 2026 GMT+7 at the Government House, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew disclosed after meeting the Prime Minister that preparations are underway for a National Security Council (NSC) meeting. When asked if the NSC meeting will consider the cancellation of MOU 44, Sihasak stated that this will be discussed during the NSC session.
When asked if he had reported on his visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Sihasak said the visit went well, including discussions on border security, economic matters, and importantly, the internal situation in Myanmar. He expressed a desire for peace and reconciliation, noting dialogues with various groups aimed at progress. There is potential for Myanmar's return to ASEAN ministerial meetings. Energy discussions involved PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTT EP), which is interested in investment and has requested additional government support.
Sihasak added that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East remains concerning. He expressed a hope for renewed negotiations, although no official talks have yet taken place.
