Dr. Warong sympathizes with parliament vendors as few MPs visit and sales fall short, proposing opening the MPs' dining room for followers to help support increased sales.
On 23 Apr 2026 GMT+7 at the parliament, Dr. Warong Dechkitvikrom, leader of the Thai Pakdee Party, announced a proposal urging parliamentary management to relax regulations allowing MPs' staff and assistants to access the second-floor food zone. This aims to stimulate vendors' sales after the food court’s second day remained quiet because MPs were too busy with meetings to visit.
After surveying the second-floor food court at the Phra Suriyan Building, which serves meals and drinks for all 500 MPs, Dr. Warong reported that vendors described the atmosphere as quite quiet. Despite convenient systems like coupon exchange and QR code payments, few MPs used the service, as many were occupied with parliamentary or subcommittee meetings. Consequently, sales fell below targets and vendors complained about poor business.
The Thai Pakdee Party leader suggested to relevant authorities that, while safety remains important, to support vendors, permission should be considered for MPs’ work teams—including personal experts, specialists, and operational assistants—to access and dine in the food zone.
Dr. Warong is confident that expanding the user base to include MPs’ staff will definitely revive trade in the second-floor food court, as these personnel are numerous within the parliament. This would help distribute income more broadly and sustainably among vendors operating there.
