Wannor Praises Arrest of 5 Gunmen in MP Kamolsak Shooting, Urges Capture of Mastermind

Wannor Muhamadnor thanked the Prime Minister and police after the arrest of five suspects in the shooting of MP Kamolsak, highlighting that the crucial point lies with the mastermind behind the attack.

On 23 April 2026, Wannor Muhamadnor Mata, advisor to the Prime Minister and chairman of the Prachachart Party advisory committee, provided an update on the assassination attempt against MP Kamolsak Leevama of Narathiwat province, Prachachart Party. Police have arrested all five suspects named in the warrants. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for personally overseeing the case, as well as to Police Deputy Commissioner-General Samran Nualma, who managed the investigation leading to key evidence including the weapon used and a vehicle that was dismantled to destroy evidence. The suspects have initially confessed.

Wannor added that an important point is that MP Kamolsak had no prior acquaintance or disputes with any of the five suspects, leading to a strong belief that a mastermind or contractor is behind the crime. He also noted the significant observation that a vehicle belonging to the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) appears to be involved in the case.

"If the mastermind cannot be identified, ISOC must answer to society, as the vehicle used belongs to their agency. They need to clarify whether anyone within the agency was complicit. If all masterminds are caught, the public will have confidence that government agencies are not involved in wrongdoing," Wannor said.

When asked about concerns over the case being "cut short," Wannor affirmed his strong confidence, citing the completeness of current evidence. He noted that the Prime Minister has clearly instructed that the law be enforced fairly and thoroughly, regardless of who the offenders are or which agency they belong to.

Regarding tensions in the southern region following the Fourth Army Area Commander’s meeting with the Chularatchamontri (the Supreme Patriarch of the Islamic Council), Wannor stated that it is a separate issue. However, he acknowledged that misunderstandings about religious educational institutions (pondok/tadika schools) are a serious matter that the government must urgently address through the Ministry of Education to mitigate long-term impacts on traditions and culture.
