Pita Criticizes Legal Warfare Using Arbitrary Ethical Standards to Destroy Opponents

The former Move Forward Party leader openly confronts accusations of overthrowing the government and insists that the proposal to amend Section 112 is intended to resolve social conflicts.

On 23 April 2026, Mr. Pita Limjaroenrat, former leader of the Move Forward Party, posted a statement affirming that the intention behind the previous petition to amend Section 112 of the Criminal Code was not to undermine the government system. Rather, it was to bring the intense ideological conflicts in Thai society at the time into a “safe space” such as the House of Representatives, to seek resolution within the framework of the constitution and through internationally accepted legislative processes.

Mr. Pita stated that the legal case should never have arisen in the first place but is part of a “legal warfare” aimed at destroying efforts to change social structures by the Future Forward Party, Move Forward Party, and the People’s Party. He observed that the rigorous application of “ethical standards” without clear rules or checks and balances is being used as a political tool to eliminate opponents, which he described as truly undermining democracy.

Regarding the case against the 10 members of parliament (MPs) still under prosecution, the former Move Forward leader opined there is no need to suspend them from their duties for three reasons: there is no serious harm caused; MPs’ work is already subject to constitutional oversight; and these 10 MPs play important roles in legislating and scrutinizing the government. Suspending them would weaken the opposition’s mechanisms, and since there are only 10, they cannot regroup to propose similar legislation again, so there is no risk of repeated offenses.

“Allowing all 10 to continue their duties does not harm the state but protects parliamentary systems and ensures continuity of work for the people while the case remains in the judicial process,” the former leader concluded.
