Ice-Sahaswat Invades Silom to Spark Social Security Reform Movement, Plans to Submit Bill to Reclaim Fund to Parliament

The People’s Party advanced into Soi Lalay Sap, campaigning to separate the Social Security Fund from the government bureaucracy. They promoted a four-point policy emphasizing transparency, sustainability, and connection with insured persons.

On 24 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Sahaswat Khumkhong, MP for Chonburi District 7, and Ms. Rakchanok Srinok, party-list MP of the People’s Party, visited Lalay Sap Market in the Silom area to hold a campaign event promoting the People’s Party’s draft Social Security Act. The atmosphere was lively, with many locals and office workers showing strong interest and enthusiastically placing stickers to support reform of the Social Security Fund.

Ms. Rakchanok explained that currently the Social Security Fund is almost entirely managed by the bureaucracy, which contradicts the fact that the money comes from the insured persons and employers. This draft law focuses on reform in four main areas: 1. Transparency—requiring disclosure of meeting records and budget usage; 2. Efficiency—restructuring as an independent legal entity to professionally manage the trillion-baht fund more flexibly; 3. Connection—adjusting the board structure to reflect the true contribution proportions; and 4. Sustainability—benchmarking investment performance against global standards and reviewing the wage base every three years.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sahaswat said that if people feel money is deducted every month but benefits do not improve, it is time to raise voices to truly reclaim the fund for the people. The People’s Party seeks support from all insured persons to transform the problematic system into one that is efficient and accountable.

At the end, both Mr. Sahaswat and Ms. Rakchanok invited the public and insured persons to join a symbolic march to the Parliament building to officially submit the People’s Party’s draft Social Security Act on 1 May 2026 GMT+7 (International Labor Day) at 3:00 p.m. This aims to demonstrate that reforming social security is an urgent matter that cannot wait any longer.
