Supamas Orders OCPB to Find Remedies for Passengers After Sudden Flight Cancellations

The Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office has called for an investigation into the impacts of tour cancellations caused by the Middle East conflict and discussed compensation measures. If mediation fails, legal action will be pursued on behalf of consumers.

On 24 April 2026, Ms. Supamas Isarapakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office and supervisor of the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), announced that she has instructed the OCPB to urgently follow up and resolve complaints regarding multiple airlines suddenly canceling flights. This situation stems from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has disrupted travel plans and caused significant financial losses to many citizens.

Ms. Supamas noted that the problem extends beyond just airline ticket costs, including other non-refundable expenses such as accommodations and tour fees. Additionally, certain legal limitations have raised consumer concerns about receiving compensation. Therefore, she emphasized that the OCPB must take both preventive and corrective roles to ensure maximum fairness.

Mr. Ronarong Phulpipat, Secretary-General of the OCPB, responded by outlining three operational approaches: collaborating with airlines and coordinating with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) to implement effective assistance measures; enhancing mediation by inviting airlines and affected parties to discuss solutions together; and if no resolution is reached, the OCPB is prepared to exercise its authority to take legal action on behalf of consumers. They will also strengthen public awareness about passenger rights and precautions when booking tickets through foreign platforms without representatives in Thailand.

“Currently, the OCPB has coordinated with all relevant sectors, including airline associations and the CAAT, to establish urgent assistance measures. If citizens do not receive fair treatment, they can seek advice via the OCPB hotline at 1166, the OCPB website, or the OCPB Connect application, available 24 hours,” Ms. Supamas concluded.
