The Ministry of Commerce is tightening controls on "corn moisture measurement," requiring the use of moisture meters certified by officials. Moisture must be measured at every transaction starting 8 May to reduce disputes and prevent price undercutting.
On 26 April 2026, Ms. Lalida Perwivatthana, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that the Ministry of Commerce issued regulations setting criteria for the use of "corn moisture meters" in buying and selling to ensure clarity, transparency, and fairness for all parties. This regulation will take effect from 8 May 2026 onward.
The key point of the announcement is that operators purchasing or selling corn must use moisture meters certified by officials and measure moisture levels every time corn is traded. This serves as a central standard to reduce disputes and price suppression issues.
Additionally, systematic measurement procedures are established, including sampling from multiple points, strict adherence to the moisture meter manual, and placing meters in locations visible to all trading parties to ensure transparency and verifiability.
Ms. Lalida said this measure will raise the overall corn trade standards, build market confidence, and protect farmers from exploitation. The government has instructed relevant agencies to closely monitor enforcement, especially during harvest periods, to ensure fair transactions and safeguard farmers' incomes.
