Democrat Party Confident Thailand Has Potential to Become Global AI Hub, Needs Foundations and Transparent Intermediaries

The Democrat Party is confident that Thailand has the potential to become a global AI hub because many talented and good people live in the country, but what is still missing are the foundational infrastructure and transparent intermediaries needed.

On 26 Apr 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, the Democrat Party held a high-level public forum titled “Thailand in the AI Race” on 25 Apr 2026. The event aimed to drive policy from vision to practical execution by gathering leaders from government, private sector, and technology developers to formulate Thailand’s AI strategic plan aligned with global trends. This was the first such forum initiated by the Democrat Party to elevate Thailand to an international level.

Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said at the forum that the party is committed to pushing forward, starting with Bangkok, which has the right environment to become the first AI Builder Hub. This hub would realize the vision for AI development and then expand to all regions of Thailand. The party is ready to collaborate with all sectors and serve as an intermediary for all areas, groups, and ages to drive long-term job-creating investment beyond tourism revenue, focusing on residential investment and quality investors and workers. This will create a systematic working ecosystem that elevates Thai people alongside international standards.

The AI Builder Hub aims to support AI business investors in Thailand to grow through comprehensive coordination by the Democrat Party's economic expert team. This includes readiness in legal frameworks, sourcing investment, and enhancing workforce competitiveness domestically. The plan involves coordinating with the Board of Investment to match suitable domestic and foreign investors, organizing workshops for youth, and reskilling companies undergoing AI transformation. Bangkok is targeted as the first AI Builder Hub before expanding regionally. The party intends to promote this through upcoming Bangkok governor and council elections and work collaboratively with all agencies and political parties.

Abhisit emphasized that the party's economic policy team, led by Korn Chatikavanij, former Finance Minister and Democrat deputy leader and MP, along with Dr. Kadee Liaoipiroj, deputy party leader and MP, focuses on implementing the "AI Builder Hub" policy. This plan aims to shift Thailand from being an AI user to a creator by supporting infrastructure, access to computing resources, and legal reforms to attract high-skilled personnel globally.

AI Builder Hub is a crucial component.

“Our goal is to make Thailand the home of innovation creators,” a Democrat Party representative said. “The AI Builder Hub policy will be a key driver linking builders with funding sources and favorable government policies for growth. This initiative is not just discussion but a collaborative blueprint design for the AI innovation center to be established in Bangkok.” This hub would be the first in Southeast Asia, aiming to elevate Thai innovators to global standards while attracting collaboration from worldwide technology networks.” Abhisit said,

he continued that as Thailand’s oldest political institution, the Democrat Party is committed to sustainable development and democratic governance. In 2026, the party prioritizes the concept of “ Market-Oriented Centrism” which focuses on market mechanisms, with technology, digital economy, and inclusive growth as core elements. This approach aims to ensure Thailand maintains its distinctiveness and long-term competitiveness.

Additionally, the party launched the page “@AIBuildersBKK” on X, Facebook, and TikTok to continue this mission, serving as a central platform connecting developers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders in Thailand’s AI ecosystem, while providing updates and promoting ongoing collaboration.
