The Economic Party reorganized its leadership and adjusted strict party rules, shifting the authority to decide on joining a coalition government to the party leader, while political appointments are to be finalized by the executive committee. It confirmed that "Rangsee" will be the No. 1 candidate on the party list for the upcoming election.
On 26 Apr 2026 GMT+7 at the Princeton Hotel, the Economic Party’s general assembly was lively, with party members from all regions attending to set policy direction and prepare for the election. The meeting unanimously decided to retain the current executive committee to continue the party’s strategic work.
General Rangsee Kitiyantrasap, leader of the Economic Party, addressed the opening, analyzing global uncertainties. He said, “Thailand is facing strong winds from geopolitical conflicts worldwide, a clear warning sign that could lead to a severe economic crisis worse than before. The Economic Party must proactively prepare to protect the Thai people from impact.”
Then, Mr. Chris Potranan, chairman of the Economic Party, presented the main policy under the theme “Thai People First” to tackle potential crises. He declared clear positions: firmly opposing unnecessary budget spending, rejecting tax increases to avoid burdening Thai citizens, and supporting free trade to enable Thai entrepreneurs to compete globally.
The party also pushed for tax measures on foreign workers earning a living in Thailand to ensure fairness and use the revenue to improve the quality of life for Thai people.
The meeting also passed a significant resolution to amend party bylaws to improve decision-making efficiency and systematization. The changes transferred the authority to join or withdraw from coalition governments, which was previously held by the party chairman, to the “party leader.”
Decisions regarding holding political positions, formerly under the party chairman’s authority, were changed to be under the authority of the “party executive committee.”
At the end of the meeting, General Rangsee announced his readiness to confidently lead the Economic Party into the election arena, confirming to the assembly that he will run as the No. 1 candidate on the party list to represent the people in solving national issues with tangible results.
