Zabida, Minister of Culture, expects the restoration of Ta Kwai Castle to take two years. The project is currently awaiting budget allocation approval. She revealed continuous coordination with local military forces to ensure security and expressed confidence that technology will allow the castle to be restored to closely resemble its original state.
At 9:40 a.m. on 28 April 2026 at the Government House, Ms. Zabida Thaiset, Minister of Culture, spoke about the restoration of Ta Kwai Castle. She said the process is currently in the budget allocation request phase. The Fine Arts Department has already completed its survey. Therefore, she expects the restoration to take about two years. The Ministry of Culture is continuously coordinating with the military in the area to clear the site, with officials ready to facilitate all aspects.
When asked if the area is currently safe and free of conflict, Ms. Zabida said she could not confirm this as it is a matter for security authorities. However, based on the information received, officials will facilitate access to the area and assure that it will be safe.
Ms. Zabida further stated that the restoration will aim to make the castle resemble its original condition as much as possible. Thanks to current technologies, the castle can be restored to look very similar to how it was before. There may be differences in color indicating which parts are original and which are new, but the overall style will remain the same. The restoration process is not complicated, and the Fine Arts Department has knowledgeable personnel capable of restoring it beautifully. After completion, the site can be opened as a tourist attraction, although adjustments to the area and landscaping may be necessary.
