Board Established to Drive Economic Policy, Accelerate Government Response to Middle East Impact

Anutin signed the prime minister's order appointing the Economic Policy Committee, chairing it himself to accelerate government policy implementation in response to the Middle East impact.

On 28 April 2026, Ms. Rachada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, disclosed the prime minister's office order regarding the appointment of the Economic Policy Committee to drive key government economic policies as presented to parliament, ensuring their continuous, effective implementation aligned with rapidly changing economic conditions. This committee plays a crucial role in reviewing comprehensive economic policies, including finance, fiscal matters, taxation, trade, investment, agriculture, transportation and logistics, tourism, energy, digital economy, and industry, as well as establishing proactive measures to counteract impacts from the Middle East regional conflict.

. The prime minister serves as the committee chair, with deputy prime ministers and ministers of transport, finance, foreign affairs, commerce, higher education, science, research and innovation, including Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt, acting as vice chairs.

Members include the ministers of tourism and sports, agriculture and cooperatives, digital economy and society, energy, interior, labor, industry, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office Pradorn Prissanananukul, permanent secretaries of the interior and finance ministries, budget bureau director, secretary-general of the Council of State, secretary-general of the Board of Investment, governor of the Bank of Thailand, Mr. Chantanon Wannakejorn, special expert to the prime minister's office, president of the Federation of Thai Industries, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and chairman of the Thai Bankers' Association.

The secretary-general of the Cabinet and the secretary-general of the National Economic and Social Development Council serve as members and secretaries, with the director of the Fiscal Policy Office and the deputy secretary-general of the National Economic and Social Development Council, assigned by the secretary-general, as members and assistant secretaries.

Authority and Duties

1. Review and screen significant issues related to or impacting the overall economy, including finance, fiscal policy, taxation, trade, investment, agriculture, transportation and logistics, tourism, energy, digital economic development, and industry as assigned by the cabinet or prime minister before submission to the cabinet.

2. Assess, analyze, and recommend proactive measures or decision-making approaches on issues or policies under item 1 for presentation to the cabinet.

3. Direct, manage, and monitor situations affected by the Middle East regional conflict to establish remedial and mitigation measures for cabinet consideration.

4. Consider other matters assigned by the cabinet or prime minister.

5. Invite ministers, agencies, officials, and other committees to provide explanations, information, and opinions as deemed appropriate by the prime minister or the committee.
