Cabinet Approves 5.374 Billion Baht Burapha Medical Innovation Center to Boost EEC Healthcare

The Cabinet has approved the Burapha Medical Innovation Center at Burapha University with a budget of 5.374 billion baht to enhance specialized medical treatment capabilities and elevate the region as a comprehensive medical hub within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) of Eastern Thailand.

On 28 April 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Lalida Pertwiwatthana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, announced that the Cabinet approved the Burapha Medical Innovation Center project at Burapha University, with a total budget of 5,374.85 million baht over six years from fiscal years 2027 to 2032. The project aims to advance medical service capabilities, personnel training, and health innovations in Eastern Thailand and the EEC special development zone.

The project’s primary goal is to develop Burapha University Hospital into a tertiary-level medical excellence center capable of handling complex patient cases, increasing specialized treatment capacity, and supporting the hospital’s role as a comprehensive medical center in the EEC area, which is experiencing continuous population, workforce, and foreign resident growth.

Key components of the project include constructing three new buildings and renovating one existing structure: the Medical Learning and Practice Center, the Medical Support Building, a Multipurpose Building, and the renovation of the Srinagarind Building. These facilities will support outpatient and inpatient services, medical excellence centers, classrooms, laboratories, conference rooms, student dormitories, and learning support spaces.

The project will enhance Burapha University Hospital’s capacity to a 500-bed facility, with plans to expand to 800 beds in the future. It will also support an increase in medical students, specialist training, residency programs, and medical personnel in specialties essential to the region.

Additionally, the project aims to create a medical innovation ecosystem connecting the university, hospital, industry, and research institutes to advance clinical research, health technology, and specialized medical services that meet the needs of local residents and drive the national medical industry.

“This project is an investment in the future of Eastern Thailand’s healthcare system. It is not just about adding beds, buildings, or medical equipment, but about establishing a center for medicine, learning, and innovation that will bring high-quality services closer to residents in the EEC area,” said the spokesperson.
