Cabinet Acts on NACCs Proposal to Curb Hotel License Corruption, Orders Interior Ministry to Revise One Stop Service

The Cabinet is responding to the National Anti-Corruption Commission's proposal to curb corruption in hotel licensing by ordering the Interior Ministry to expedite revisions to the One Stop Service and reduce officials' discretionary powers.

On 28 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ploytale Laksameesangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed the Cabinet meeting outcome. The Cabinet acknowledged recommendations for preventing corruption risks in issuing hotel business licenses in Thailand, as proposed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC).

The Cabinet assigned the Ministry of Interior (MOI) as the main agency to consider the matter in collaboration with related agencies such as the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission, the Office of the Council of State, and the Royal Thai Police. The MOI is to finalize the review and overall opinions and submit them to the Secretariat of the Cabinet within 30 days for further presentation to the Cabinet.

Ms. Ploytale stated the core of the recommendations focuses on reforming the licensing process to enhance transparency and speed. Key approaches include reducing steps and officials' discretionary powers, which are vulnerabilities for corruption; implementing technology to develop checklist systems and a One Stop Service to standardize inspections; and enforcing strict penalties by establishing clear channels for reporting corruption and decisive punishments for officials found soliciting bribes.

Furthermore, in the long term, the government plans to review the entire licensing system to lessen the burden and costs for hotel operators, especially small businesses. This aims to boost the competitiveness of Thailand's tourism industry and build sustainable confidence among both domestic and international investors.
