Democrat youth criticize the sluggish six-month flood relief in the South, demand 1 billion baht for home repairs, and urge urgent payment of 114 million baht to farmers.
On 29 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Saksit Khaothong, Democrat Party MP for Songkhla, publicly criticized bureaucratic delays during a parliamentary session. He questioned the progress of flood relief payments, noting that six months after the disaster, many residents have yet to receive full compensation, and some received insufficient amounts relative to their damages. He urged the Department of Livestock Development and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to clarify the payment timeline. Although the government approved a 1.098 billion baht budget to repair 60,000 homes, implementation has been slow and unclear.
The Democrat MP continued, emphasizing that the main issue is delay; after six months, the public still lacks a confirmed schedule for transferring funds. He observed that households suffering severe damage have received inadequate compensation, insufficient for actual repairs. He called on the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to establish a complaint channel for those whose information was missed or who received unfair payments. The people await with hope, but so far the government has not provided a clear answer on when payments will be completed.
The Democrat MP also highlighted the plight of livestock farmers in Songkhla province, severely affected by the recent floods. Some 1,725 farmers have yet to receive any compensation, with damages totaling 114 million baht still pending in the system. He urged the Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development and the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives to promptly clarify a clear timeline for fund transfers, enabling farmers to recover and resume their livelihoods. He stressed that bureaucratic complexity should not obstruct citizens' survival and called on relevant ministers to treat this issue as urgent, to reduce public concern and alleviate suffering that has persisted for more than six months.
