The Commerce Permanent Secretary pulled Supachai out of an interview after media pressed her on the controversy over live-streamed durian sales that did not match the advertised quality. The opposition party has prepared questions, but Supachai said she is not yet aware of the details.
On 29 Apr 2026 GMT+7 at the Santi Maitri Building, Government House, Mrs. Supachai Suthumpun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, responded to reporters about the House of Representatives' plan to raise questions regarding the live-streamed durian sales and the formation of a committee to address agricultural product pricing issues, stating that "The problem is being addressed incorrectly, like scratching where it doesn't itch." When reporters tried to get Mrs. Supachai to give an interview, Mr. Wutikrai Liweerapun, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, attempted to pull her away, citing other commitments. Mrs. Supachai said she was still unaware of who formed the committee or its details and requested time to review the information first.
Regarding the live-streamed durian sales with a famous influencer at a price of 100 baht that did not meet expectations, as well as the opposition's criticism that it was impossible and harmed market mechanisms, Mrs. Supachai said she had not seen it and was unable to place an order in time. She said that the relevant agencies should investigate and oversee the matter.
However, reporters noted that while they tried to get Mrs. Supachai to give an official interview on the matter, the Permanent Secretary and officials pulled her away from the interview three times and requested that the media not conduct interviews at that time.
