Anutin Assigns Phiphat to Study Land Bridge Project Before Cabinet Submission

Prime Minister Anutin has assigned Phiphat to proceed with studying the feasibility of the Land Bridge Project before presenting it to the Cabinet, while also listening to local public opinions. Coalition parties have no objections.

On 29 Apr 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who is also Minister of Interior, ordered during the Cabinet meeting on 28 Apr to study advancing the Land Bridge Project. The Prime Minister assigned Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn to conduct a feasibility study, noting that studies already exist but need updating.

This includes going to listen to and provide information to the local people about what the Land Bridge Project entails and gathering their opinions before bringing the matter back to the Cabinet meeting. Nevertheless, coalition government parties, including the Pheu Thai Party, agree with the project.

The core principle is to study thoroughly. Any project must consider three main factors: 1. Public opinion and participation results; 2. Economic and social returns, assessing cost-effectiveness; and 3. Investment budget and its sources. Whether to present the project to a mobile Cabinet meeting depends on the Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council and the Secretary-General of the Cabinet, as they are responsible for submitting agenda items for the Cabinet's consideration.
