Akkaradej Affirms No Need to Set Up Special Committee to Solve Crop Price Issues, Emphasizes Commerce Committee Has Full Authority Without Overlap

Akkaradej counters the opposition, saying there is no need to establish a special committee to solve crop price problems. He emphasizes that the Commerce Committee has full authority, avoiding overlap and budget waste, and is more effective.

On 29 April 2026, Mr. Akkaradej Wongpitakroj, MP for Ratchaburi from the Bhumjaithai Party and government whip, spoke regarding the House of Representatives' decision not to set up a special committee to investigate the government and solve agricultural product price issues. He stated that agricultural product problems are significant issues the government takes very seriously. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed relevant ministers to closely monitor proposals and parliamentary debates.

He added that referring the matter to the Commerce Committee to address is an appropriate approach. Moreover, a Commerce Committee will be formed next week, which can start working immediately without delay. As a standing parliamentary committee, the Commerce Committee already has direct authority to track and resolve agricultural product price problems.

"It is unnecessary to create an additional special committee because it may cause duplication and waste budget, while the Commerce Committee can work with full efficiency," he said. Mr. Akkaradej stated.

Mr. Akkaradej further explained that although the opposition argued that establishing a special committee would allow all sectors to participate, in reality the Commerce Committee already includes representatives from both government and opposition. It can also invite relevant agencies and the public for discussions. He believes the Commerce Committee will be more effective than a special committee, as it is a permanent parliamentary committee with a continuous term until the parliament's end or dissolution. This allows it to consistently monitor the government's progress in solving crop price problems, unlike a special committee with a limited timeframe.
