Deputy Prime Minister Songsak refuses to intervene in the issue of allocating committee chair positions proportionate to the Bhumjaithai Party. He takes an optimistic view regarding the case of an MP who exited the party's Line group, suggesting it might have been an accidental tap.
At 09:40 on 30 Apr 2026 GMT+7 at the Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri, a leader of the Bhumjaithai Party (BJT), commented on the allocation of committee chair positions in the House of Representatives proportional to BJT. He said this matter belongs to the parliament. Since we are in the executive branch, issues specific to parliament should be handled by parliament itself. My role is that if the parliament raises any questions or motions, it is the executive's duty to clarify or respond. This is part of the checks and balances system working together. However, I will not interfere in how these matters are handled and must respectfully decline to comment.
When asked about the case of an MP exiting the party's Line group due to dissatisfaction over not being allocated a committee chair position, Songsak said he had only heard secondhand accounts. The actual facts should be confirmed with the MP involved to see if the reports are true, but he has not seen any evidence yet. When pressed whether leaving the Line group indicates dissatisfaction, Songsak replied, "He might have accidentally tapped to leave the group, something like that, but I do not know the facts yet." When asked if it was an accidental tap, Songsak smiled and said, "Something like that," but emphasized that the facts remain unclear.
