Economic Party Announces Candidates for Bangkok Governor and 50 District Council Seats, Reveals Familiar Initial J.

The Economic Party announced it will field candidates for the positions of Bangkok Governor and all 50 District Council seats, revealing a candidate with the initial 'J.' widely recognized by the public. The party boasts it will win more than half of the council seats and emphasizes it is not merely putting forward symbolic candidates.

On 30 Apr 2026 GMT+7 at the Parliament, Mr. Peeraphon Kanokwalai, a party-list MP of the Economic Party, spoke about the party's plan to field candidates for Bangkok Governor and Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMC) members. He noted that Bangkok faces many problems including traffic congestion, flooding, and notably the urgent issue of foreign nationals competing with Thai citizens for jobs and school placements in Bangkok schools. He also highlighted widespread corruption within Bangkok's district offices, which remains unresolved, especially in waste management, where foul-smelling garbage problems persist. The Economic Party, ranked fifth on the party-list, observed that the Palang Prachachon Party and the Democrat Party have expressed intentions to run candidates for Governor and BMC in all districts. Therefore, the Economic Party will also field candidates for Governor and all BMC districts, aiming to improve Bangkok.

“The party has already approached a candidate to run for Bangkok Governor, and prospects look promising. This candidate’s initial is 'J.'; mentioning this initial will immediately identify who it is, as they are a well-known figure with prior responsibilities toward Bangkok residents. However, this person is not a career politician. We are keeping the name confidential for now to build excitement. We expect to officially announce the candidate by 10 May 2026 GMT+7. We affirm that this candidate can compete effectively against others and likely will not lose. I reiterate that our candidates for Governor and the BMC are knowledgeable and capable, and we expect to win more than half of the council seats, not merely field token candidates.”
