Ramadan Urges Government to Treat Shooting of MP Kamolsak as Special Case, Fears IO Tactics to Divert Focus

'Ramadan,' Progressive Movement MP, follows up on the shooting case of MP Kamolsak Liwamo of the Prachachart Party, expressing concern about information operations (IO) potentially diverting the issue and proposes the government designate it as a special case to ensure proper handling.

At 14:30 on 30 Apr 2026 GMT+7, at the press conference room, 1st floor, Parliament building, Mr. Ramadan Panjor, MP of the Progressive Movement and his team held a press conference on the shooting of MP Kamolsak Liwamo of the Prachachart Party. He expressed concern about potential diversion of the issue through information operations (IO) and proposed the case be treated as a special case.

Mr. Ramadan Panjor said the shooting of MP Kamolsak Liwamo from Narathiwat province, Prachachart Party, which occurred about a month ago, still has ongoing issues that need close monitoring. There are observations and suggestions regarding information operations (IO) that may aim to create confusion and undermine the credibility of those involved. He said he consulted with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, expressing concerns that the parliament's role in this matter has been insufficient compared to the case's media developments, which have steadily progressed. While understanding some operational limitations, he proposed the Speaker use authority to establish mechanisms for monitoring, oversight, and checks and balances to ensure that the investigation process is straightforward, transparent, and fair. The Speaker agreed there are no principled obstacles to this. Currently, there remain several concerns about the case's progress, especially evidence gathering. MP Kamolsak Liwamo has had to collect evidence himself and file additional complaints to complement the original investigation. Recently, additional complaints were filed concerning two Marine Corps officers. It remains unclear whether the newly established task force has interrogated the accused. Also, it must be watched whether the case will be split into multiple files, which worries the public. Although suspects in the operation have been arrested, allegations involving state officials add complexity, requiring thorough examination.

Moreover, this case directly affects the duties of MPs in the area, such as MP Kamolsak Liwamo, who had to take leave from meetings to gather evidence. This reflects that the problem is not personal but relates to the legislative system's operation. He views this incident not merely as an act against an individual but as a challenge to democratic political institutions, making it essential for the state to implement protective measures and guarantees for safety. From the public's perspective, this is not a personal case but one connected to various parties, including certain state agencies. Therefore, it should not be reduced to an ordinary criminal case but considered in terms of security and political motives. He proposed the government elevate this case to a “special case” to ensure the investigation is impartial, transparent, and professional, as relying solely on local mechanisms may not suffice to build public confidence. Another concern is the attempt to divert the issue through systematic, ongoing information operations (IO) targeting and undermining the credibility not only of politicians but also of the media, activists, and civil society in the area, especially after key information disclosures. This pattern risks diverting the case's core issues from the facts. He urged the media and society to closely monitor this. He emphasized this issue affects not only MPs' duties but also public confidence in political institutions and democratic problem-solving. It is crucial to maintain political spaces as safe places for citizens' voices; otherwise, peaceful resolution and acceptance of differing views will be difficult.
