Peoples Party Declares Support for Workers, Prepares to Submit Social Security Reform Bill

"Weerayut, Xia, and Thanaporn" joined the Labor Day march to push for social security reform, stating that to be global, the lives of workers must be prioritized and affirming that workers' collective organization is a fundamental right.

On 1 May 2026, Mr. Weerayut Kanchuchat, a party-list MP and deputy leader of the People's Party, along with Mr. Xia Pathong and Ms. Thanaporn Wijan, party-list MPs from the People's Party, participated in the International Labor Day march at Ratchadamnoen Road heading to Lan Khon Mueang. Ms. Thanapornsaid todaythe People's Party joined the march alongside fellow workers to confirm their solidarity with laborers while campaigning to reclaim social security. Currently, the Social Security Fund's management is under public scrutiny. Today, the People's Party will submit a social security reform bill at the Parliament building.

Mr. Weerayut stated that the People's Party's social security reform agenda aims to enhance the management efficiency of the Social Security Fund, which holds 2.9 trillion baht. If managed transparently and professionally, it will yield returns to support the hard work of all laborers, providing a safety net during unemployment, disability, or retirement. Furthermore, the party emphasizes that the right of workers to organize is a fundamental right, a key condition in Free Trade Agreement negotiations with the European Union and for Thailand's accession to the OECD. Therefore, if Thailand seeks to meet international standards, it must prioritize labor rights. Joint adaptation between business and labor sectors will help drive the economy forward toward a progressive and equitable system, where society shares hardships and benefits alike—principles the party has consistently upheld.

At 2:30 p.m. today, the People's Party will march from Bang Pho intersection to the Parliament building to campaign for their version of the social security reform bill, which will be submitted to the House of Representatives.
