Prime Minister Anutin is pushing for the loan decree to be presented to the Cabinet on 5 May, stating it does not need to go through the economic Cabinet first.
At 09:45 on 1 May 2026 at the Government House, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior as well as leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, commented on the economic Cabinet meeting. He said that Monday, 4 May, is a public holiday, so the meeting has been postponed to the following week. There is no fixed rule requiring the economic Cabinet to meet immediately. The committee has just been formed, and Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Akniti Nitithanprapas will set the regular agenda and other matters to be presented. However, there are no regulations stating that the economic Cabinet must approve before the Tuesday Cabinet meeting. The economic Cabinet emphasizes economic issues, but it cannot officially meet yet because its members include private sector representatives such as the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Thai Industries, and the Thai Bankers’ Association.
When asked whether the loan royal decree would be presented to the Cabinet on 5 May, Anutin said he is trying his best to expedite it. When asked if the framework is set at 400 billion baht, he replied that approval must come from the Cabinet first. Regarding the discussions on 30 April, he said there have been many rounds of meetings considering the reasons, necessity, and benefits of the loan.
