“Mr. Chen and Minister Nhim” Launch Labor Day Event Social Security Secretary Reveals 8 Labor Demands This Year

“Yotsanan Julpan” inaugurated the National Labor Day activities. The Secretary-General of the Social Security Office revealed that this year, labor groups have submitted a total of eight demands, including increased maternity rights and retention of some post-retirement benefits for workers.

On 1 May 2026, Mr. Julpan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labor, invited workers, insured persons, and the general public to join the National Labor Day event for 2026, held on 1 May 2026 at Lan Khon Mueang, Bangkok City Hall. The event was officially opened by Mr. Yotsanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (HESRI).

Ms. Kanjana Phulkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, stated that the Social Security Office has continuously participated in National Labor Day activities alongside agencies under the Ministry of Labor to raise awareness of benefits and promote access to social security for all insured groups. This year, the office invites employees, insured persons, and the public to join the event on 1 May 2026 at Lan Khon Mueang, Bangkok City Hall, to participate in a variety of free activities focused on health, education, and entertainment throughout the event.

At the event, the Social Security Office set up an exhibition booth showcasing its work, along with stage activities providing information about social security benefits, consultations, and benefit eligibility checks for insured persons. They also registered new insured persons under Sections 39 and 40, allowing informal workers and those who have left jobs to maintain continuous coverage. Additionally, free vaccinations against four strains of influenza and basic health screenings from social security network hospitals were offered to promote workers' health and quality of life. Health consultations were also available onsite to support preventive care and improve workers’ well-being. The event included entertainment booths with games and quizzes offering prizes and coupons for various giveaways.

For this year’s National Labor Day, labor groups submitted a total of eight demands, focusing on social security system improvements such as allowing state enterprise employees to register under Section 40, increasing maternity benefits, retaining some post-retirement benefits, and expanding the eligible age for registration to accommodate an aging society. The Minister of Labor accepted these demands and assigned the Social Security Office to urgently study and develop benefits aligned with workers' needs to ensure comprehensive, fair protection and genuinely improve quality of life.

The Secretary-General of the Social Security Office added that the office remains committed to continuously developing the social security system to provide all insured persons with appropriate welfare, life security, reduced inequality, and sustainable social equity.
