Good News for Insured Persons: From 1 May 2026, Major Dental Benefits Revised Wisdom Tooth Surgery Coverage Increased to 2,500 Baht

The Deputy Government Spokesperson announced good news for insured persons: from 1 May 2026, dental benefits will be revised to increase coverage for wisdom tooth surgery up to 2,500 baht, removable dentures up to 6,000 baht, and non-removable denture surgery fees paid up to 17,500 baht.

On 2 May 2026, Ms. Ploytale Lakshamisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that the government prioritizes insured persons by focusing on improving quality of life, reducing health expenses, and increasing access to comprehensive and efficient medical services. The government, through the Ministry of Labor, has assigned the Social Security Office to develop dental benefit rights for insured persons under Sections 33 and 39.

Starting from 1 May 2026, major improvements to social security dental benefits have been made. Insured persons undergoing wisdom tooth extraction no longer need to compete for filling funds, as social security has allocated a separate budget. Coverage is up to 2,500 baht per tooth for those who have contributed for at least three months within the 15 months before receiving the service. Insured persons who have left employment retain continuous dental coverage for up to six months.

The social security dental benefits available from 1 May 2026 are as follows:

1. Tooth extraction/filling/scaling (basic benefits)

Private hospitals/clinics: Coverage remains at 900 baht per year, unchanged.

Public hospitals: Coverage expanded to include root planing and bone trimming procedures.

2. Wisdom tooth extraction

- Previous: Included in the 900 baht annual limit; for example, a 2,500 baht extraction required paying the 1,600 baht difference out-of-pocket.

- New rights: Separate budget allocated, not counted within the existing 900 baht.

For uncomplicated extraction: Reimbursed up to 1,500 baht per tooth.

For complicated extraction (involving bone removal): Reimbursed up to 2,500 baht per tooth.

Note: When using contracted public hospitals, actual expenses are covered according to standards (excluding after-hours clinics).

3. Removable dentures

- Previous: Limited coverage and fewer options.

- New rights: Coverage increased to 1,500–6,000 baht depending on number and type of teeth, plus denture repair fees of 900 baht per session.

4. Dental implants supporting full dentures

- Previous: No coverage; patients paid all costs themselves.

- New rights: Added for those who have lost all teeth and cannot use removable dentures, with surgery fees reimbursed up to 17,500 baht per case.

Implant kits reimbursed up to 3,300 baht, including follow-up treatment coverage.

"For insured persons using services outside contracted medical facilities, they must pay upfront and can later claim reimbursement per regulations via the e-Self Service system or submit at Social Security offices nationwide. Additional information is available at Social Security offices in Bangkok, provinces, branches across the country, or via the Social Security hotline 1506, available 24 hours."
