Julaphan Happy for Thaksins Parole, Denies He Will Be an Advisor to Pheu Thai Party

Julaphan confirmed that Thaksin will not serve as an advisor to the party after his parole. He remains the party's spirit but did not deny that they will meet. He believes Thaksin's knowledge and skills can help the nation. He emphasized that decision-making power lies with the party's executive committee and is not tied to any individual. Regarding the drama over Thaksin wearing an EM bracelet, he said he is just glad Thaksin is out.

On 2 May 2026, Julaphan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labour and leader of the Pheu Thai Party, spoke about former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's upcoming parole on 11 May. He said the party has made no preparations for Thaksin's parole but is happy because Thaksin is older now and being able to be with his family is a good thing. He stated that the parole process is clearly complete, and party members who wish to welcome Thaksin upon release may do so as a personal choice.

Asked whether Thaksin's parole would improve the image of the Pheu Thai Party, Julaphan said the party is a political institution that does not depend on any individual. Thaksin has been like the spirit of the party since the Thai Rak Thai era, but the party's political process and mission depend on its executive committee, so there is no direct connection.

Regarding the possibility of Thaksin playing a role in helping the nation again, Julaphan said Thaksin's knowledge and skills can be applied in many ways, such as speaking in various forums or offering political or economic advice.

"The party cannot dictate anything, but I believe he will not take on any advisory role as asked earlier," Julaphan said.

When asked if he would consult with Thaksin, Julaphan said people who know each other naturally meet. He did not deny this fact. He expects to meet Thaksin at events and have discussions. As a person of Thaksin's level, he has ideas beneficial to society, and if those ideas prove useful, they should be discussed and implemented for the country's benefit, he added.

Asked if Thaksin might publicly express political directions, Julaphan said he did not know and that the question was misdirected. He reiterated that the party will not involve Thaksin in decision-making.

Regarding the party's view on Thaksin wearing an EM bracelet on his ankle, Julaphan said he has no particular opinion. He is simply glad Thaksin has been granted parole. Whether or not he wears the bracelet is a minor issue that he has not followed closely. The important thing is that Thaksin is out, which is already good news.
