Deputy Government Spokesperson Reassures Lisa Phakamon on Land Bridge Project, Affirming Comprehensive Information Provided to Southern Communities

Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploy Thale reassured MP Lisa Phakamon not to worry, stating the government has provided comprehensive information about the Land Bridge project to southern communities and is ready to listen to opinions openly and honestly.

On 3 May 2026, Ms. Ploy Thale, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, clarified the case of MP Phakamon Noon Anan, a party-list MP and spokesperson of the People’s Party, who posted on Facebook expressing concern that people in the South support the Land Bridge project without fully understanding it, seeing only one positive aspect. She noted that if the people fully understood all dimensions of the project, support would be very beneficial. She added that the government has often provided one-sided information and has not addressed concerns raised by citizens and private sectors, leaving the public without adequate information to understand the project.

Ms. Ploy Thale said the government acknowledges the objections to the Land Bridge project from various parties, including issues related to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental and Health Impact Assessment (EHIA). The government will complete all procedures thoroughly and has been continuously informing local people in the four southern provinces about what will happen. On 8 May 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, will visit Chumphon and Ranong provinces to hear public opinions from all perspectives, explain the pros and cons, provide detailed study results, discuss employment, and openly listen to the community's views.

The government is not ignoring concerns from all sectors, especially regarding public awareness in the southern region. Ms. Phakamon Noon Anan need not worry; the Land Bridge project is being studied in detail at every stage and explained to the public for their understanding. The government intends this project to create new industries driven by innovation and advanced technology by Thai people, serving as a new engine to generate income and boost the southern provinces’ economy. Ms. Ploy Thale stated
