Supamas has ordered the Consumer Protection Board (CPB) in every province to conduct strict field inspections regarding the 'tilapia canned fish' case, as a recurrence has been noted. She revealed that the Prime Minister has urged ministers to oversee their own agencies to ensure public protection.
At 10:05 a.m. on 5 May at the Government House, Ms. Supamas Isarapakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office,
commented on the case of tilapia being canned under incorrect labeling. She said this case has become quite well known. Although it has recently been resolved, it serves as a representative example that could happen again. Therefore, under the authority of the Consumer Protection Board (CPB), all provincial CPB offices have been instructed to thoroughly inspect details down to the factory level to see if such incidents recur, and to review related complaints.
Ms. Supamas added that the issue is not limited to canned fish. Regarding bottled drinking water in Nakhon Ratchasima province, she warned the public that if they encounter unusually low-priced products—such as drinking water priced at 2 baht per bottle—whether for consumption or use, they should be cautious. If a product is priced lower than normal, its quality should be suspected. If the product is not as advertised, consumers should report it to the CPB in every case. The CPB will follow up accordingly. Furthermore, this work is not done by a single agency; there are network partners who have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Public Health and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) covering all aspects to prevent such occurrences.
Ms. Supamas stated this is exploitation of the people. The Prime Minister emphasized that, given the situation in the Middle East, the most critical issue is the people's livelihood. Anything that helps reduce expenses, increase income, or prevent exploitation is a priority. The Prime Minister urged all ministers to supervise their respective agencies. For the CPB, besides reactive work, it is also taking proactive steps by going into communities to educate the public and monitoring progress with relevant agencies regarding issues affecting people's daily lives.
