Sonthiya has gathered the names of more than 100 former parliamentary candidates to petition the Election Commission to refer the case to the Constitutional Court for the dissolution of the Palang Pracharath Party, due to party executives failing to provide financial support to MPs during the 2026 election battle.
At 10:50 a.m. on 5 May 2026, at the Election Commission (EC) office, Mr. Sonthiya Sawasdee, former MP candidate for Samut Sakhon District 2, along with Mr. Samai Ramanyu-dom, former MP candidate for Pathum Thani District 2 from the Palang Pracharath Party, representing over 100 former parliamentary candidates under the party's name, submitted a petition to the EC. They requested the commission to consider referring the case to the Constitutional Court to dissolve the Palang Pracharath Party, revoke the political rights of the party’s executives and leader. The petition alleges that although candidates were nominated, there was no financial support for expenses or election backing. This represents selective and unfair treatment favoring certain groups, violating the ethics of party executives and leader, and breaching more than five provisions of the 2017 Political Parties Act.
Mr. Sonthiya stated that today they demand the EC to investigate and determine whether, in the recent election, the Palang Pracharath Party provided financial support to any individual or group, particularly concerning reports of funds received from a major supporter. If true, questions arise about the whereabouts of such funds, who holds them, and whether any money was transferred to specific individuals. The aim is to ensure legal compliance and for the case to be sent to the Constitutional Court to decide on dissolving the Palang Pracharath Party.
