The Minister of Education emphasized that scout uniforms will not be canceled but leniency allows not wearing the full set. This policy permits scarves and hats to be worn with school and physical education uniforms. He did not clarify whether Pheu Thai will field candidates for the Bangkok Council but does not oppose members using the party name for campaigning.
At 12:00 noon on 5 May 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Prasert Chantharawongthong, Minister of Education, gave an interview at the Government House again regarding clarity on the leniency policy for scout uniforms, saying it has not been canceled, but purchases do not need to be full sets. The leniency allows scarves and hats to be worn with school and physical education uniforms under certain exceptions.
As for the honor guard scouts who must wear the full uniform, this does not require changing laws or informing the Cabinet. It is simply an internal notification within the Ministry to related agencies, such as schools, the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), vocational schools, the Department of Learning Promotion, and private schools.
The Minister added that this is an internal Ministry management matter, delegating authority to school directors to act appropriately. When asked what happens if schools do not cooperate and instead compel students, Mr. Prasert said schools must comply. If they do not and complaints arise, they will be held responsible since the Ministry has already issued the policy.
Additionally, Mr. Prasert, as secretary-general of the Pheu Thai Party, spoke about progress on fielding candidates for the Bangkok Council, stating that Pheu Thai has no official policy to field candidates yet, but some party members wish to run and want to use the party name in campaigns. The party does not object, but no official announcements have been made. .
