"Teng Natthapong" fields the full People’s Party team to contest the Bangkok election, promoting a city agenda to build a simpler Bangkok. The team covers the governor and all 50 district council seats, unveiling an executive team that joins forces with MPs to serve Bangkok residents. He admits the challenge but is ready to compete.
At 18:45 on 5 May 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, party-list MP and head of the People’s Party, closed the event by explaining the party’s decision to contest in Bangkok, stating the decision to field candidates was Mr. Chaiwat Sathawornvijit, also known as Dr. Joe, running for governor of Bangkok for the People’s Party. It is not about political turf battles or merely defending vote bases but an opportunity to present the city agenda for Bangkok’s future appearance in 4 or 10 years.
Natthapong added, “We want to build a Bangkok that supports those who fall and shelters everyone equally with welfare. We aim to create opportunities for growth, starting up, expanding business, easier trading, easier family support, and easier travel for all. But none of this can be done by the governor alone. To fully improve the quality of life in Bangkok, we must work together at multiple levels.
“We need MPs to amend laws and grant Bangkok more power to manage residents’ quality of life; we need a governor to set policy direction, manage the city, and drive operations; we need a professional executive team to oversee each area with experience, data, and expertise; and we need district councilors to manage local areas closely, oversee budgets for quality of life development, and push district agendas that directly meet residents’ needs.”
“Most importantly, the essential element is the “people” of Bangkok who must be cared for by the city. You are key to building the city by participating in policy design, monitoring city operations. A good city must make public participation easy, transparent, meaningful, and not burdensome.”
“Today, I confirm that the People’s Party enters the governor’s race fully prepared in every aspect. Many may see this race as difficult. I admit it is hard because the current governor has done well and is popular with the people. But we are ready to fight. We are confident we have a Bangkok agenda to present to the public and a full team.”
Following this, Mr. Natthapong announced the names of the Bangkok executive team, comprising
1. Mr. Worapop Viriyaroj, responsible for economics and finance,
2. Mr. Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, responsible for anti-corruption,
3. Mr. Wallop Trirukngam, responsible for welfare,
4. Mr. Amorn Pimannamat, responsible for public works,
5. Dr. Phairoj Boonsirikamchai, responsible for public health.
Additionally, there is an advisory team, two members serving as policy and administrative advisors for Bangkok, namely
1. Mr. Decharat Sukkamnerd, responsible for quality of life and environment,
2. Ms. Phiengpanoo Boonklam, responsible for civil service reform.
“This is a full team with complete political will, specialized expertise, and the ability to push legislation to simplify difficult issues such as the 30-baht healthcare rights, patient referrals, traffic management, public transportation routing, pollution control, and PM 2.5 dust. All these are structural problems requiring simultaneous efforts at all levels—from transferring responsibilities from central government to local authorities, amending national laws like the Land Transport Act and Clean Air Act, alongside local ordinances. Some laws we can successfully push through even as a minority voice in both the House of Representatives and Bangkok Metropolitan Council.”
At the end, the People’s Party leader thanked Bangkok residents for trusting the party in the past two parliamentary elections and invited everyone to transform that trust into votes to make Bangkok a city that supports every aspect of your life.
