Kla Tham MP Withdraws Sharp-Tongued MP Remark After Ethics Inquiry Pressure Over Sophon

Dashai Ekpathee, Kla Tham MP, pushed for an ethics investigation into a 'sharp-tongued MP' whose remarks caused village headmen and local leaders distress by implicating them in drug issues. Sophon, the parliamentary speaker, asked for the withdrawal of the remark, noting it was impolite.

At 09:00 on 6 May 2026 GMT+7, the House of Representatives convened at the parliament. Sophon Sarum, Speaker of the House of Representatives, presided over the meeting. Before proceeding to the agenda, he opened the floor for MPs to discuss public grievances. Dashai Ekpathee, Lampang MP from the Kla Tham party, asked the Speaker, in his role as chair of the parliamentary ethics committee, to form a panel to investigate the ethical standards of an MP who made sweeping accusations that village headmen and local leaders were involved in drug use and trafficking, causing distress to these officials nationwide due to the allegations.

Dashai added that during his visits to Lampang province, village headmen and local leaders asked why the MP spoke so harshly and lacked maturity, especially since these officials work hard for the community. The accusations harmed their reputations, and although the MP later issued a video apology, Sophon requested the withdrawal of the term 'sharp-tongued MP' as it was inappropriate. Dashai agreed to withdraw the remark without objection.
