Prime Minister Affirms Issuance of 400 Billion Baht Loan Decree for the People, Responds to Democrat Partys Constitutional Court Submission Citing Past Borrowing

The Prime Minister affirms issuing a 400 billion baht loan decree to assist the people, welcomes transparency checks with participation from all parties, and counters the Democrat Party's submission to the Constitutional Court by pointing out that they themselves have previously borrowed.

At 10:55 a.m. on 6 May 2026 at IMPACT Forum, Muang Thong Thani, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, commented on the Democrat Party's objection and planned petition to the Constitutional Court regarding the royal decree authorizing the Finance Ministry to borrow 400 billion baht. They argued it might violate fiscal discipline as it is not an urgent matter. The Prime Minister smiled and said, "Everyone performs their role. I am fulfilling my duty to help the people. The benefits go to the public. It's not as if they have never borrowed before."

When asked if the government is willing to allow budget usage to be audited, the Prime Minister said Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anek Nitinapantpras has already addressed this, confirming that every step is monitored, including digital system checks, and that all parties have the opportunity to participate.

Regarding whether any agency needs to provide further explanations, Anutin said this responsibility lies with the Finance Ministry. If additional information is needed, the responsible agencies are available to clarify.
